Seven CAA Teams Head FCS Coaches Poll – Top 25 Teams

Photo - OT Ben Ijaiana - Villanova

The new FCS Coaches Top 25 teams shows seven CAA teams ranked among the new standings. OT Brian Ijaiana of Villanova has been instrumental in the Wildcats success again this season that has them in the top five FCS clubs. They are a strong contender for the CAA title. Ijaiana looks to represent Villanova at a major All-star game in January 2011.

Ben Ijaiana - Villanova Scouting Report - Draft Insiders Pro Prospect Preview
Agile senior left tackle has performed very well protecting the passers' blindside earning CAA honors over recent seasons. He has continued to develop with experience, displaying fine balance and agility to match up with speed rushers. He has man-handled defenders from the lower level with both his agility and power to play a physical game and win most confrontations. He has performed well in pass protection, showing good hand use and fine footwork to slide laterally and adjust nicely. He needs work as a drive blocker to move a defender off the line better, especially from a technique and strength standpoint. He needs to shine in the postseason vs top D1 competition to elevate his draft status. He has been performed well this fall, showing the footwork and agility to matchup in pass protection and the power to get a strong push at the point of attack. He is our top small college linemen this year.

FCS Coaches Poll – Top 25 Teams

CAA Football announced its Player of the Week honorees, Monday, Oct. 11. Four individuals earned honors after showcasing superb efforts in contests played in Week 6 of the 2010 season, including Delaware's Pat Devlin, Andrew Pierce and Ed Wagner and New Hampshire's John Greer.

CAA Player of Week – Pat Devlin - Delaware
Pat Devlin earned CAA Football Offensive Player of the Week honors after leading Delaware to a 26-7 win over Maine Saturday. The senior completed 20-of-36 passes for a season-best 283 yards and a touchdown. The Downingtown, Pa., native also rushed the ball seven times for 13 yards in helping the Blue Hens extend a season-opening win streak to six-straight, their best season start since beginning 2003 with nine-straight wins. Delaware retained their #2 ranking in the FCS Poll this week.

Pat Devlin Scouting Report - Draft Insiders Pro Prospect Preview
QB Pat Devlin - 6’4” 220 lbs. - Delaware

Strong-armed senior passer put up impressive numbers in ‘’09 after transferring from Penn St. He hopes to follow former Blue Hen QB Joe Flacco on to the NFL stage. He threw for over 2600 passing yards and is the highest rated small college passer this fall. With a strong fine performance, he will probably earn an invite to a major All-star game. He combines fine physical tools with the athleticism and quality intangibles and instincts to become a solid NFL passer with some development. He has the touch that allows his receivers to make a play on the ball, though he needs to improve his accuracy to ever earn an NFL starting grade. For a passer of his size, he moves fairy well in the pocket and usually makes sound decisions under pressure with the ability to pick up secondary receivers. He shows the ability to adjust quickly when plays brake down. His final performance will determine if he becomes an elite top pro prospect or a good developmental type who needs further time to refine his game.

This season he sustained both a wrist injury and a concussion in an early October game, but he returned vs Maine and had one of his best performances during his Delaware career.

Ohio St. Holds #1 Ranking

Photo - QB Christian Ponder - Florida St.

This past weekend saw the top ten undergo several major changes. Ohio St remains Draft Insiders #1 team and has not moved since August. We ranked Ohio St #1 since day one with Alabama making many changes on their highly regarded defense. Alabama suffered their first loss of the college football 2010 season to South Carolina, ending a streak of 19 consecutive victories. The top ten clubs shuffled according with Texas Christina moving to our #2 ranking. Alabama fell in every poll with SEC rivals Auburn and LSU moving ahead of the defending national champion. Florida suffered their second consecutive loss, a first during HC Urban Meyer’s reign in Gainesville. Florida St. moved into the top 20 clubs with another nice win over Miami to bring their record to 5-1.

Michigan St. remained undefeated with a key win over rival Michigan who entered the game with a perfect record. Texas Christian, Oregon, Boise St, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Auburn, Utah remain as Top Ten clubs as unbeatens. The Sooners have been in our Top Ten since August while the Auburn Tigers were Draft Insiders sleeper team of the Year in the preseason when we ranked them in the Top 15 clubs with no recognition in any other poll. This is the first week of the Harris Poll an interactive poll that includes input from several sources. Next week, the first BCS standings will be announced. There is an expected controversy with several possible undefeated clubs like Boise St., Utah and Michigan St. most likely down the charts in the initial rankings.

Justin Rogers Earns CAA Weekly Award
Senior All-America CB Justin Rogers picked up his sixth career CAA Football weekly award, earning the league's Defensive Player of the Week honors as No. 11 Richmond put away Coastal Carolina, 41-19, Saturday at Robins Stadium.

With his sixth career CAA honor, Rogers has tied former James Madison QB Rodney Landers for the all-time conference lead.

The Buck Buchanan Award (top defensive player in the FCS) candidate made his presence felt in a number of ways Saturday, intercepting two passes, forcing a fumble, recording five tackles, knocking away a pass and collecting 52 yards in punt returns. He set up three of the Spiders' six touchdowns.

The interceptions were the first of the season for Rogers and the 11th and 12th of his standout career, moving him to tied for third on Richmond's all-time list. The first helped set up the Spiders' clinching touchdown - Tyler Kirchoff's 27-yard run with 1:49 left in the game, while the latter was returned 34 yards for a touchdown and capped the scoring in a 41-19 Richmond victory.
That return marked his third career interception returned for a touchdown to set a new Richmond all-time record.

Additionally, one of his punt returns of 44 yards gave the Spiders ideal field position at the Coastal 12-yard line early in the second quarter. Richmond capitalized one play later with a 12-yard TD run from Kirchoff - one of his career-best four TDs on the day - as the Spiders sprinted out to a 20-0 lead.

After the most exciting weekend of the college football 2010 season, the Top 25 teams undergoes many changes this week. The top two clubs, Ohio St and Alabama continue to meet every challenge and head a strong list of undefeated top ten teams. Both Texas and Penn St. have been removed from the Draft Insiders’ and AP polls. They were both disturbingly retained in the Coaches poll in the top 20 despite each sustaining their second loss by the first week of October. Oklahoma and Auburn continue as two of the unbeatens. The Sooners have been in our Top Ten since August while the Auburn Tigers were Draft Insiders sleeper team of the Year in the preseason when we ranked them in the Top 15 clubs.
