MOBILE, Ala. (Dec. 20) – Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith heads an outstanding quartet of players from the number one ranked Ohio State Buckeyes who have accepted invitations to the 2007 Under Armour Senior Bowl, bowl officials have announced.

Joining Smith in Mobile for the January 27, 2007, contest will be a pair of defensive tackles – consensus first-team All-American Quinn Pitcock and David Patterson, and center Doug Datish, a 2006 Rimington Award finalist.
Smith took home college football’s highest individual honor on December 9 when he became the 72nd winner of the Heisman Trophy in a landslide victory, garnering 2,540 points.
A 6-1, 215-pounder known for his speed and elusiveness, Smith has also become the consummate pocket-passer who possesses a rifle arm and is considered an outstanding NFL draft prospect at the quarterback position.
Accurate and unflappable, he led the Big Ten in passer rating with 167.9, while throwing for 2,507 yards, just five interceptions and a school record 30 TD passes in 2006.

Five outstanding seniors from the University of Notre Dame -- electrifying quarterback Brady Quinn, record-setting wide receivers Jeff Samardzija and Rhema McKnight, defensive end Victor Abiamiri and offensive lineman Ryan Harris – have accepted invitations to participate in the 2007 Under Armour Senior Bowl, set for Saturday, January 27 in Mobile’s Ladd-Peebles Stadium.

“We are excited to have the University of Notre Dame so well represented in this year’s Senior Bowl,� said Senior Bowl President Steve Hale. “The tremendous success enjoyed by Notre Dame is a credit to these five outstanding seniors and we’re looking forward to showcasing their talents throughout Senior Bowl Week 2007.
Quinn, the 2006 Maxwell Award winner and a Heisman Trophy finalist, led Notre Dame to a 10-2 regular season and a second consecutive BCS bowl appearance this season.
