The college football season ended the craziest regular schedule in recent decades with further major surprises at the top of the rankings. The incredible ’07 season concluded with more major changes as different #1 and #2 rated clubs, West Virginia and Missouri both losing and falling from the top five ranking in the final week. Ohio St. completed their season two weeks ago and slipped back into the top spot off the losses by higher rated clubs. They moved into the BCS title matchup vs LSU as a result. LSU won the SEC title game with another fine performance this time vs a tough Tennessee club.
Hawaii completed the season as the only undefeated club but their suspect schedule failed to impress most poll voters. West Virginia let a great opportunity to claim the tenuous #1 spot with a major upset loss to Pittsburgh. Missouri fell from the equally vulnerable #2 spot when the emerging Oklahoma club thrashed them for the second time this season. Virginia Tech got revenge in the ACC title game and beat an overrated Boston College club. Kansas had their best season in years and gained a BCS game. The top 10 teams shuffled once again with Ohio St. and LSU moving back into the top spots. Former highly ranked clubs like Virginia Tech, Southern Cal, Georgia and Oklahoma all made late runs into top bowl scenarios.
