College Player of the Week – Tulane Running Back Matt Forte’
Oct. 24
Tulane's running back Matt Forte rushed the ball 38 times for 342 yards and 4 TDs helping the Green Wave to defeat SMU 41-34 in overtime. He broke his own school and Conference USA records that he set earlier this season on Sept. 22. The second record-setting performance of the 2007 season earned him College Player of the Year by Draft Insiders. Forté had two nine-yard touchdown runs - including the game-winner in overtime. He also added a five-yard TD and a career-long 77-yard TD in the first half. He broke his own school and league rushing marks with 303 yards vs Southeastern Louisiana on Sept. 22. In addition to setting the Tulane and C-USA rushing record this week, he also became only the third player in school history to eclipse the 1,000-yard rushing mark and now has 1,261 yards through seven games. He ranks first among NCAA Division I-Bowl Subdivision players in rushing yards and rushing yards per game. He moved into second place on the Tulane single-season rushing list and is on pace to shatter Mewelde Moore school record of 1,421 set in 2001.
