College Player of the Week – #1 ranked LSU Running back Jacob Hester

LSU running back Jacob Hester earned the College Player of the Week award for his outstanding performance vs Florida in a key matchup with national title implications. He rushed for 106 tough yards on 24 carries and he clinched the Tigers' victory with a 2 yard TD plunge late in the 4th quarter.

In the season's most exciting game played in Tiger Stadium in front of the largest crowd in its history, the #1-ranked LSU overcame a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit to beat #9 ranked Florida, 28-24, in front of record 92,910 emotionally spent fans. Hester crossed the goal line with 1:09 remaining in the contest to give LSU its first lead of the game. It was the Tigers 5th first down conversion on 4th down during the game and the 2nd by Hester both over the final game winning drive. The 100 yard rushing effort was the first of Hester's career, which has seen him fill many roles from the fullback position, including excellent receiving and blocking skills in addition to strong inside running that have been vital to the Tigers power ground game.

Athletic versatile senior started again this season after filling a few key roles over his Tiger career. He is coming off a fine performance last fall as both a receiver and runner. He is suited for a one back offense that features his versatility and athleticism. He is a strong inside runner with fine hands as a receiver and should benefit from his broad experience in this attack. He needs some further work as a lead blocker, but has the physical talent to develop and grade higher in that key role. Over his career, he has had only 1 fumble and his sure hands have allowed him to be a very well developed receiver out of the backfield. He is a savvy and smart athlete who displays both power and quickness and carries an early starting pro grade.
