Final NFL Mock Draft ‘07 - Complete Seven Round x - won coin flip with Tampa * underclassmen From Mobile Wonder to OHHHHHHHHHH Nellie 1 Oakland - * JaMarcus Russell - QB - LSU The Raiders have not done many things right over the past five years. They need to get this right after another poor ’05 performance especially on the offensive side of the ball. Russell can be a difference maker at the NFL level. He gives this offense a player that can make all the throws with enormous physical talent. How early should he start will be critical in his development with a poor offensive line a key problem area in recent seasons. A possible signing of QB Daunte Culpepper would give him the time to develop without the pressure of starting immediately. Alternate Pick: - * Calvin Johnson - WR - Georgia Tech 2 Detroit - DE - Gaines Adams - Clemson The Lions have done some nice things this offseason and hope to parlay this draft selection into either an immediate impact performer or additional early picks. They have attempted to move out of this spot and are still pursuing several possibilities but want to remain in the top 5-10 selections. Gaines Adams is a super blue chip prospect who is very high on their board. They love OT Joe Thomas but hope to move back in the top five and land him plus another top 50 selection. They will probably pass on the best player in this class and the best receiver in 20 years after trading three receivers in the top 10 in recent classes. Alternate Pick: Joe Thomas - OT - Wisconsin x 3 Cleveland - Brady Quinn - QB - Notre Dame GM Phil Savage can land their future franchise passer here with most likely his choice at either Russell or Brady Quinn. With Russell most likely gone, Quinn is a good fit with current starter Charlie Frye only adequate over his early career. They are also debating Calvin Johnson, Adrian Peterson and Joe Thomas here and each would be a fine addition. Thomas would be a cornerstone blocker on a line that has been one of the more vulnerable units in the league. Alternate Pick: * Calvin Johnson - WR - Georgia Tech 4 Tampa Bay - * Calvin Johnson - WR - Georgia Tech The Bucs have clear needs especially on the offensive side of the ball. They hope to land a big play receiver, pass rusher and hard hitting safety. They could have their choice of Calvin Johnson, Gaines Adams or LaRon Landry available. Johnson gives them a premier receiver who their struggling passing game. Adams gives them a top edge rusher that is essential while Landry would be a major addition to their aging secondary. They love OT Joe Thomas but he will most likely gone by this selection. Alternate Pick: Joe Thomas - OT - Wisconsin 5 Arizona - Joe Thomas - OT - Wisconsin The Cards would be thrilled if Thomas falls to this selection. They have major needs especially on the defensive side of the ball. They love Thomas, DE Gaines Adams and LaRon Landry and have them earmarked them as their top choice. They will build around last year’s top pick QB Matt Leinart and a strong receiving corps. *** They also have a trade on the table with the Patriots for this selection for two late #1 picks. *** Alternate Pick: Gaines Adams - DE - Clemson 6 Washington - Amobi Okoye - DT - Louisville The Redskins front office has a top ten selection that they must either turn into an impact performer or addition first day selections. They do not have their #2,3 or 4 picks after prior deals. They have many needs especially along their front four and in the secondary. They will need a strong class this April to return to respectability. They have many major needs entering this draft and will probably address defense this early with either DT Okayed or Branch assuming that DE Gaines Adams is off the board. They will consider safety Larson Landry here; though it is not a high need area. Alternate Pick: LaRon Landry - FS - LSU 7 Minnesota - * Adrian Peterson - RB - Oklahoma The Vikings are hoping one of the premier prospects falls to this selection. They would love to land QB Brady Quinn here. They also have prepared to choose running Adrian Peterson to give them a home run out of the backfield. With Quinn and Peterson gone, they will look to blue chip safety Larson Landry to stabilize a changing secondary. Alternate Pick: LaRon Landry - FS - LSU 8 Atlanta (Hour) - Adam Carriker - DE - Nebraska The Falcons hope to land one of the top defensive players in this class. They have both Carrier and Landry on their short list. They also like corners Leon Hall and Christ Houston but may be able to move back to select them. Carrier is a perfect replacement for Patrick Kearney who left in FA. With Landry on the board, he could be the selection here and a great addition to their shaky secondary. Alternate Pick: LaRon Landry - FS - LSU 9 Miami - LaRon Landry - FS - LSU The Dolphins will have another top 10 selection and need to get this choice right after a poor draft history over the past ten years. They have major needs along the offensive line and in the secondary. They would jump on Landry if he were still available. They are considering moving up to draft QB Brady Quinn with the Cards and Skins the most likely teams. They also love OT Levi Brown and he would give them an anchor and fixture along their troubled line. Alternate Pick: Levi Brown - OT - Penn St 10 Houston (Atl) - Levi Brown - OT - Penn St The Texans hope to turn the page for the franchise with a new front office running this draft. They made a fine trade for young QB Matt Schaub and released David Carr to begin a new era. They hope to give Schaub a premier left tackle to protect his blindside and have Levi Brown at the top of their short list. That is a possibility but certainly not a sure thing. They would love to land LaRon Landry but highly unlikely. They have CB Leon Hall and LB Patrick Willis on their short list and would not hesitate to select either at this pick. Alternate Pick: Leon Hall - CB - Michigan 11 San Francisco - * Alan Branch - DT - Michigan The 49ers hope to improve their changing defense with an impact performer, most likely on their front seven. DT Alan Branch has the talent to be an anchor on the 3-4 scheme and a prospect who could be available. They also love DE Adam Carriker and he would be their highest priority if available. They have also been impressed with LB Patrick Willis and see him as both a leader and impact defender. Alternate Pick: Patrick Willis - LB - Mississippi 12 Buffalo - Patrick Willis - LB - Mississippi The Bills took a few key losses to their linebacking unit and hope to address early in this draft and possibly with a few selections. Willis is a fast rising prospect and a perfect fit here if he gets past a few earlier clubs. They also have big needs in the secondary especially on the corner and like both Leon Hall and Chris Houston. They have entertained moving back in the first round and also like CB Darrelle Revis 5-10 spots later in the round. Alternate Pick: Leon Hall - CB - Michigan 13 St. Louis - Leon Hall - CB - Michigan The Rams are at the crossroads in this draft and look to address their biggest needs in the secondary and front four on defense and their offensive line and receiving corps on offense. They like DT Okoye and Branch but both should be gone here. They may have their choice of any corner and have Hall, Houston and Revis on their short list. They have needs in their receiving corps and like both Ted Ginn and Robert Meachem and both would be fine additions for this passing game. Alternate Pick: * Ted Ginn - WR - Ohio St 14 Carolina - * Ted Ginn - WR - Ohio St The Panthers need to add playmakers for their vanilla offense. Ginn gives them an explosive player with impact ability in the return game. He can compete for the #3 receiver role where he can be a fine slot receiver. Robert Meachem will also get consideration. They will have to address this area early this spring and probably in the opening round. LB is an area that must be addressed and could be their first round pick with Timmons a fine fit for this scheme. Alternate Pick: * Lawrence Timmons - LB - Florida St. 15 Pittsburgh - * Darrelle Revis - CB - Pittsburgh The Steelers have several need areas that must be addressed with cornerback high on this list. They would love to add Pitt corner Darrelle Revis for a secondary that gave up too many big plays last fall. They could shock fans if the second highest receiver in on board like Dwayne Bowe even though they used their top pick on Santonio Holmes list April. They will address OLB later on the first day with Anthony Spencer, Paul Pouluszny and LaMarr Woodley on their list. Alternate Pick: Dwayne Bowe - WR - LSU 16 Green Bay - * Marshawn Lynch - RB - Cal The Packers had a great draft class last spring and look to take the next step up. They have many needs especially on their changing defense and skill positions. They will most likely have a chance at runner Marshawn Lynch if he gets past Buffalo. They also love TE Greg Olsen and he would give them a missing dimension to their passing game. Alternate Pick: * Greg Olsen - TE - Miami 17 Jacksonville - * Reggie Nelson - FS - Florida The Jaguars took some FA losses at safety and have Reggie Nelson high on their short list. They have e issues in the secondary and failed to address their last spring. Defenders like Brandon Meriweather and Chris Houston are high on their short list. In a deep receiver class, they may address this area again despite using two #1 choices on Reggie Williams and Matt Jones in recent years. Alternate Pick: Brandon Meriweather - CB - Miami 18 Cincinnati - * Greg Olsen - TE - Miami The Bengals hope to continue to build an explosive offensive and a fast tight end would be the missing link. Greg Olsen can stretch the field and give them a real weapon in the deep seam. Their young defense has problems in the secondary and one of the top corners would be a welcome addition. They like both Hall and Revis and will not hesitate to select them. After many off the field problems, the Bengals will avoid any problems children this April. Alternate Pick: * Darrelle Revis - CB - Pittsburgh 19 Tennessee - * Robert Meachem - WR - Tennessee The Titans hope to address two main areas, wide receiver and cornerback. They have to replace Pac Man Jones at both cornerback and in the return game. A prospect like Ted Ginn would solve two problems but he is most likely gone by this selection. Robert Meachem is a home state kid with good character and the speed to be a threat in the vertical game. Alternate Pick: Dwayne Bowe - WR - LSU 20 N.Y. Giants - Brandon Meriweather - CB - Miami The Giants’ hope to address their secondary early and often this spring. They have prime needs on the corner, safety, linebacker and on the offensive line. They could address the secondary twice early and like Brandon Meriweather and Chris Houston very much. They like OT Joe Staley and are considering him here or moving back 5-10 spots to select him. Alternate Pick: * Chris Houston - CB - Arkansas 21 Denver - Ryan Kalil - OC - Southern Cal The Broncos have many clear needs along their offensive line, middle linebacker, wide receiver and in the secondary. They love Patrick Willis but would have to move up 10 spots to land him. They also love center Ryan Kalil and see him as an immediate replacement to Tom Nalen. They like a number of cornerbacks like Hall, Houston and Ross. They also like top wideouts Bowe and Meachem and would jump at a chance to land them. Alternate Pick: * Chris Houston - CB - Arkansas 22 Dallas - * Chris Houston - CB - Arkansas The Boys have addressed their defense in the top round over the past decade and may continue that trend. They love CB Chris Houston and Aaron Ross and have them on their short list. With age and little depth at wideout, they have Dwayne Bowe, Dwayne Jarrett and Craig Davis on their short list. Alternate Pick: Aaron Ross - CB - Texas 23 Kansas City - Dwayne Bowe - WR - LSU The Chiefs have major needs along the offensive line, cornerback and on their receiving corps. They have not used a top pick for a receiver in over a decade and like Dwayne Bowel and Robert Meachem very much. Meachem is most likely gone. They could address the line with their choice of either Joe Staley or Ben Grubbs in the first round. Alternate Pick: Aaron Ross - CB - Texas 24 New Eng (Seat) - Paul Posluszny - LB - Penn St The Patriots have two late #1 picks and have a few clear needs especially at linebacker and in the secondary. They have prime needs in their secondary that could be addressed twice over the first day. They like corners Houston and Ross plus safety Michael Griffin at this selection. They have age at the LB spot and like Posluszny very much. Alternate Pick: Aaron Ross - CB - Texas 25 New York Jets - Aaron Ross - CB - Texas The Jets have a few prospects earmarked here. They would love to land corner Aaron Ross or Brandon Meriweather. They could address their front seven here with DE Jamaal Anderson a possibility. They would love to land LB Posluszny here. Alternate Pick: * Jamaal Anderson - DE - Arkansas 26 Philadelphia - * Jamaal Anderson - DE - Arkansas The Eagles could address this spot early with clear needs on defense at end, safety, cornerback, tight end and running back. They probably have a chance at linebackers like Jon Beacon and Lawrence Timmons at this spot. Alternate Pick: * Jon Beacon - LB - Miami 27 New Orleans - * Lawrence Timmons - LB - Florida St. The Saints will look to address their weak back seven with their linebacking unit a key area. They like Timmons and Beason very much and have them on their short list. They also like CB Ross and McCauley here and either would be a welcome addition at this selection. Alternate Pick: *Jon Beason - LB - Miami 28 New England - Michael Griffin - SS - Texas The Patriots will look to most likely address their defense with both #1 picks. What they do at the 24th overall pick will dictate this selection. They will probably add a few defensive backs and possibly with both top selections. They love safety Michael Griffin and have him on their short list. They also like OL Justin Blalock here and have him on their short list. Alternate Pick: Justin Blalock - OG - Texas 29 Baltimore - Justin Blalock - OG - Texas The Ravens will address their offensive line several times in this draft and maybe with both their top selections. They love OL Justin Blalock and center Ryan Kalil. They could also address the front seven with a defender like Anthony Spencer probably still on the board. Alternate Pick: Anthony Spencer - DE/LB - Purdue 30 San Diego - Dwayne Jarrett - WR - USC The Chargers hope to address their wide receiver spot early in the draft and would like to land Dwayne Jarrett here. They have major needs in the secondary and also at linebacker. They like Anthony Spencer as an outside backer and Griffin for the strong safety spot. Alternate Pick: Michael Griffin - SS - Texas 31 Chicago - Justin Harrell - DT - Tennessee The Bears have some major needs on their front seven on defense. They are impressed with rising DT Justin Harrell and have him on their short list. They like tackle Joe Staley and guard Ben Grubbs very much and both could a major surprise here. Alternate Pick: Joe Staley - OT - Central Michigan 32 Indianapolis - *Jon Beason - LB - Miami The Colts have some clear needs at wide receiver, cornerback and linebacker. They like LB Beason, Timmons and Harris very much to replace Cato June who left in FA. They could surprise fans and draft into the deep receiving corps. They have DT Justin Harrell on their short list and he would be a fine addition to this front four. Alternate Pick: David Harris - LB - Michigan 2nd Round 33 Oakland - Joe Staley - OT - Central Michigan 34 Detroit - David Harris - LB - Michigan 35 Tampa Bay * Jarvis Moss - DE - Florida 36 Cleveland - Marcus McCauley - CB - Fresno St 37 Chic (Jets/ Wash) - Ben Grubbs - OG - Auburn 38 Arizona - * Zach Miller - TE - Arizona St 39 Atlanta (Hous) - Tony Ugoh - OT -Arkansas 40 Miami - Anthony Spencer - DE/LB - Purdue 41 Minnesota -* Charles Johnson - DE - Georgia 42 San Fran - * Sidney Rice - WR - South Carolina 43 Buffalo - Tanard Jackson - FS - Syracuse 44 Atlanta - Josh Wilson - CB - Maryland 45 Carolina - * Brandon Siler - LB - Florida 46 Pittsburgh - Stewart Bradley - LB - Nebraska 47 Green Bay - Jason Hill - WR - Washington St 48 Jacksonville - Victor Abiamiri - DE - Notre Dame 49 Cincinnati - Arron Sears - OT - Tennessee 50 Tennessee - Craig Davis - WR - LSU 51 New York Giants - Eric Weddle - FS - Utah 52 St. Louis - * Anthony Gonzalez - WR - Ohio St. 53 Dallas - James Marten - OT - Boston College 54 Kansas City - Quentin Moses - DE - Georgia 55 Seattle - Tank Tyler - DT - North Carolina St 56 Denver - Aaron Rouse - SS - Virginia Tech 57 Philadelphia -* Antonio Pittman - RB -Ohio St. 58 New Orleans - Steve Smith - WR - USC 59 New York Jets - * Eric Wright - CB - UNLV 60 Miami (New Eng) - Drew Stanton - QB - Michigan St 61 Baltimore - Ray McDonald - DL - Florida 62 San Diego - Brian Leonard - RB - Rutgers 63 N.Y.
