NFL Draft '07 - Chat Frank Coyle www.draftinsiders.com Moderator - Frank welcome back to PackerChatters Live Draft Chat...We thank you for taking the time to come in tonight. Frank let us know when you are ready and we will start asking for questions from our list of fans with us tonight. Frank Coyle (Draft Insiders) - Glad to be here. Great time of year. This is when clubs win NFL championships. Moderator - Question for Frank? Thanks for your time. What are your thoughts on Michael Bush and his injury? Frank Coyle (DraftInsiders) - Bush is a tough call. He probably should have returned to school with a medical redshirt. He probably goes on the 2nd day and questionable for being ready for training camp. Moderator - Next. Where do think Ginn and Jarrett will be slotted to be taken when all is said and done? Frank Coyle (DraftInsiders) - Both kids have fallen. I love Ginn. I know he is only 180 lbs. but he is a difference maker. He does need work on routes and such but he is a prime time player. Jarrett is being over analyzed. He is a good possession receiver. He probably goes late 1st early 2nd after a 4.62 time at USC pro day. Moderator- Frank, thanks for your time. Are there any character concerns with Marshawn Lynch and would he be a good fit in Green Bay? If not, what backs could they get later on? Frank Coyle (DraftInsiders) - Lynch is a good fit for GB. His off the field problems were resolved. His back injury came up after the combine but is a minor factor. If he gets past Buffalo at 12 overall pick, Ted Thompson should have a shot at him. Weak RB class after the top 2 prospects. Moderator – Next question. Yes! Thanks for being here Frank. You're Ted Thompson. The clock is ticking on the 16th pick in the first round. What do you do? Frank Coyle (DraftInsiders) - I like WR Robert Meachem if he is still on the board. I would also take Ted Ginn or Marshawn Lynch. TE Olsen is a possibility with a weak TE class. He is a real playmaker who could provide impact immediately. Moderator –Next question Does lynch have better value in the first round, then Irons, Pittman, Hunt in the 2nd or Darby in the 4th round? Frank Coyle (DraftInsiders) - Hunt and Irons are not a 2nd round guys in my book. Darby is falling like a rock and available on the 5th round. I love Lorenzo Booker who he needs the right situation at a 1A type of back. He is a top 75 prospect in my Yearbook. Moderator - Next question for Frank Coyle Frank, thanks for coming tonight. My question is this, everyone seems to have the Packers taking Lynch, but that's mostly because I think they see him as a "need" pick. If Ted Thompson takes BPA as he says he does, who'll that be at 16, regardless of the position? Frank Coyle (DraftInsiders) - Probably either Chris Houston, Greg Olsen, Marshawn Lynch in that order if all available. Moderator - Next.question? What is your thoughts on GB giving up No.16 for Michael Turner and SD pick at 30th?..Thank You Frank Coyle (DraftInsiders) - Turner was a kid I loved coming out of N Illinois. He is a tough back with speed. Flipping with SD would be a good deal for GB. At #30 you would have a few nice WR, CB, TE and safeties on the board. Moderator - Next. WELCOME FRANK---Do you still feel that Ted Ginn is a early first rounder and between Ginn, Bowe, Meachem, Jarrett and Rice who will end up being their teams #1 receiver ? THANKS Frank Coyle (DraftInsiders) - Ginn probably goes in the second half of the first round. Receiver order for me now is Ginn, Meachem, Bowe, Jarrett and Rice. Bowe still drops too many passes for my money. Rice could be available at the #47 pick. Moderator - How does Dwayne Jarret compare to Mike Williams? Frank Coyle (DraftInsiders) - Jarrett is a better player. Williams was out of football for a full season, out of shape in general and a bad attitude. Jarrett is a tough kid with fine hands. He lacks good speed to get deep consistently but he should be a fine starter and fairly early in his career. Moderator - Question for Frank Coyle What do you think is the likeability of the Randy Moss trade? If so who do you think we will trade for Moss? Frank Coyle (DraftInsiders) - Oakland wants a #1 pick plus for Moss. In a deep receiver class, I don't think they will get it. The Raiders want to take Calvin Johnson but only if they recover a #1 pick for Moss. Maybe a later pick beyond the top 20 selections. Moderator - Why has Tony Hunt fallen so much? Have teams asked him about playing FB? Frank Coyle (DraftInsiders) - Hunt is a between the tackles runner. He has fine hands as a receiver but is a 4.65 guy. He can be a workhorse but he will not break plays. I liken him to Anthony Thomas but he probably goes on the 3rd round. Moderator – Alan Branch and Jamaal anderson seem to be a little less hot than some of the other top names. Could you see either falling to #16? Will Greg Olsen ever be decent blocking TE or will he always be one-dimensional? Frank Coyle (DraftInsiders) - Both Branch and Anderson would be remote possibilities. Each is a fine talent but both are juniors with some concerns about their level of development. Maybe too good to pass on if available at #16. Olsen is a big time player. Moderator - Question for Frank? After Olsen and Miller at TE who do you have next in line that can stretch the field, what about the D3 kid Michael Allan. He had good combine numbers, but can he play? Frank Coyle (DraftInsiders) - My #3 is Scott Chandler #4 is Ben Patrick. Michael Allen is a good player but not up for blocking assignments. He is not a first day guy and probably goes in the 4th thru 6th rounds. I like Chandler a lot, though he lacks top speed. Patrick is my #1 small college player and a kid who is ready to fill any role. He could be the surprise of the draft and go in the 3rd round. Moderator - Question for Frank? Who would you say is the third best QB in this draft and do you think the Packers should consider drafting another QB? Frank Coyle (DraftInsiders) - QB Drew Stanton of Michigan St .is my #3 passer. I had him #2 senior passer all year. Someone like the Lions or Bears will get a fine starter in the 2nd round. Moderator - Best FB for the zone blocking scheme for the Packers, besides Leonard ? Frank Coyle (DraftInsiders) - Probably Jason Snelling of Virginia. Weak year at FB. After Brian Leonard goes in the mid first day, the next FB probably goes after 5th round. Moderator – Next ? I think Mike Jones, G, Iowa would be a good fit for GB. Very good 2nd day pick. Your thoughts, please. Thanks. Frank Coyle (DraftInsiders) - Mike Jones is a football player. He had a decent Combine effort. Savvy tough Iowa linemen are always kids you better look at. He is the type that 3 years down the road you look up and he is starting at guard for someone and probably goes later part of 2nd day. Moderator - Another question for Frank? One area I see of definite need for the Packers in the near future is at CB considering the age of Woodson & Harris. Who are some prospects at that position this year that Green Bay can get on the first day that have legitimate shots at being NFL starters in a year or two. Frank Coyle (DraftInsiders) - Good crop of corners in my book. After top 50 guys like Josh Wilson, Jonathan Wade, Michael Coe Tony Franklin would be nice additions. Moderator - Have a question? If we did trade back and select at 30th overall, who are some of the players available at that spot? Frank Coyle (DraftInsiders) - CB Marcus McCauley, Aaron Ross, TE Zach Miller, safety Michael Griffin and OT Joe Staley Moderator - Question for Frank? Sorry, just got in the room, hopefully not a duplicate question...How seriously do you feel the Packers would pursue a trade should Adrian Peterson start to fall in the draft...and what would it take to move up to the 6-9 spot from the #16 pick? Frank Coyle (DraftInsiders) - Peterson probably does not fall beyond #8 pick, the Vikings and Bills like him and the Falcons could shock people and take him. Moderator – Next ? Is Brian Leonard an every down back in the NFL ---Were do you see Darrelle Revis being drafted--and would John Wendling and Eric Weddle fit the Packers defense. THANKS, Frank Frank Coyle (DraftInsiders) - Leonard is a complete back. He is best suited for single back offense that few play today. He has great hands and is the ideal West coast FB. Revis is a late first round guy with teams like the Saints, Jets, Patriots and Broncos interested. Weddling and Weddle carry a starting grade. Weddle more at FS with Weddling at SS. Weddle is a marginal top 50-60 pick Weddling a marginal top 100. I like both kids and see them starting fairly soon in their careers. Moderator - Is Olsen the really deal or is he a "work warrior"? I know a lot of his numbers were down because of terrible QB play but do you think he can live up to his 4.5 speed and spread a pro defense? Also who you compare him to Winslow? Thanks for your time. Moderator - Draft Insiders' Digest - 16th Season http://www.draftinsiders.com 20 issues annually - Draft '07 Yearbook Monthly Newsletters Published by NFL scout Frank Coyle and staff @ Draft Insiders.com Over 100 years experience scouting Pro Prospects Subscribers call: 1-800- 776- 1949 "The Publication NFL Scouts Buy" 2007 Draft Yearbook Now Available! http://www.draftinsiders.com/node/38 Frank Coyle (DraftInsiders) - Olsen is the real deal. He's a Jersey guy too. He is a terrific receiver who suffered with poor QB play. I liken him more to Jeremy Shockey than Kellen Winslow and without the baggage. Olsen's numbers at the combine are for real and I believe will translate into Pro Bowl caliber performance. Moderator - I keep hearing that next years RB class is loaded what are the names coming out and will they last to the end of the first round. Would it be that much of a benefit for us to draft maybe hunt in the 3rd this year and try to pick up a first round back next year with all of the talent expected to be available? Thanks Frank Frank Coyle (DraftInsiders) - That could be wise, though a lot of things happen over a year to change talent levels and draft positioning. Hunt is an honest back who catches the ball well and is good value in 3rd round. GB may need a running back by committee. Moderator - Next question? Do the Packers have any interest in LaRon Landry? Enough to move up? Or could he fall to 16? Thanks Frank Coyle (DraftInsiders) - Landry has been in my top 10 all year. I rank him the #6 player in this draft and would cost GB their #1 pick next year. That is too rich for a club that needs another deep draft class like last spring. I thought Ted Thompson had the deepest and best class in the entire league last April. Moderator - If we wanted to trade down in the 1st...Which teams are looking to move to 16? Frank Coyle (DraftInsiders) - Maybe New England with two #1 picks at #24 and #28. Now I would make a move back for those two picks. GB would probably have to include their #2 pick at 47. Moderator - Frank I have a question....Who among the so called top ten prospects do you see sliding the most? Frank Coyle (DraftInsiders) - Ginn is a not a top ten anymore, though that could be a major mistake. DT Branch seems to be sliding, but probably does not get past Buff or St. Louis. Moderator - Can you give me 3-4 names of guys "mocked" as mid-late first or early second round guys that you could see falling to the middle of the second round for those of us always hoping for the BPA and best possible value pick? Frank Coyle (DraftInsiders) - Maybe guys like Michael Griffin, Sidney Rice, Eric Wright and Tank Tyler figure in the mid 2nd round. Moderator - Your question? You say that the Packers need another deep draft. With Thompson's deep draft last year, could this be a year that the Pack go quality over quantity, especially with the Skins shopping the #6 and wanting d line help. would KGB be enough with 16 to move to 6 for peterson if he falls? Frank Coyle (DraftInsiders) - I don't like so. Moving 10 picks into the top ten usually costs another #1 pick or a #2 this year plus a player. Peterson should be available at #6. Moderator - Great questions and answers again tonight...Have a question for Frank? What are your opinions on the 2 other blue chip safeties? (Nelson, Griffin) Seems this is an area of strength in the draft and need for the Pack. Frank Coyle (DraftInsiders) - I love the safety class. Nelson is a fine FS with a big upside. He probably goes late first. Griffin has been over criticized. He is the best special teams player in the draft. His shoulder problems lead to some missed tackles but he is a fine SS and great 2nd round value in my book. Moderator – Next? Best kick/punt returner after Ted Ginn? Frank Coyle (DraftInsiders) - Yamon Figurs of Kansas St. Then Steve Breaston of Michigan. Moderator -Your turn. Is Steve Breaston a bonafide NFL return man and would he be someone GB should look at to fill/improve the #4 WR/Return slot? What round do you project him to go? Thanks Frank Coyle (DraftInsiders) - Breaston probably goes early 2nd day. He can return kicks and win the #3 or #4 job and should be a productive pro player. Moderator - Question for Frank? Frank, Thanks for coming in, questions on late round guys, Man Mountain Walter Thomas where will he fall along with runner D.D. Terry and do you know who's looking at them. Frank Coyle (DraftInsiders) - Hopefully Thomas falls away from the table and gets into condition. He is a late round guy with a make it grade but questionable endurance and general level of development. DD Terry is an interesting kid who converted from LB to running back. He has a make it grade and could win a backup role as 3rd down back. Moderator - Next question? Do you think the Packers will look at drafting a left tackle prospect to groom behind Chad Clifton? If so, day 1 or day 2? and who might they be interested in? Thank for chatting with us tonite. Frank Coyle (DraftInsiders) - Clifton still has it but bringing a prospect along is always wise. Joe Staley goes early 2nd round and can start at guard before moving outside. That would be an interesting addition if they traded back in first round. I like Doug Free of N. Illinois. He goes in the middle rounds and has a starting grade at DraftInsiders.com. Moderator - With all the effort, money and manpower that's expended each year on the draft, it seems like we always have the late round success stories like Colston and Tauscher. How do players like that get missed, and who's the #1 sleeper pick in your opinion this year? Frank Coyle (DraftInsiders) - There are only 250 picks. There are a lot of players but different circumstances and factors that affect final ratings. Colston had some shoulder problems and average speed numbers that forced him into the late rounds. I love LB Justin Durant, WR Laurent Robinson, Maurice Price and Jacoby Jones and TE Ben Patrick plus CB Michael Coe. Moderator - Next question? Who would be a better pick Michael Griffin or Eric Weddle. Frank Coyle (DraftInsiders) - Griffin would be the better pick, but as a SS while Weddle is a savvy kid and a FS. Both should be solid NFL starters and figure in the 2nd round. Moderator - Is Ryne Robinson the next Steve Smith? He has the quickness to outrun players and has excellent hands, also has great return skills. Frank Coyle (DraftInsiders) - Ryne Robinson is a fine role player who I expect to be drafted in the late rounds. He can be a starting return man, but may be never more than a #5 or #4 receiver. Moderator - The final question this evening Where, if anywhere, is Matt Spaeth on your board? Who would be a mid to late round TE option for the Pack assuming Ben Patrick is gone? Thank you Frank Coyle (DraftInsiders) – Matt Spaeth suffered a shoulder injury late in the season that hurt his postseason. He probably goes beyond the top 150 picks and great value there. He carries a starting grade in time but must improve as a blocker and has only average speed. Moderator – Last question The ''word'' since he was drafted--and up to now, has been back and forth as it relates to Aaron Rodgers. "Future franchise QB" to "He'll never be anything special. Do you have an opinion? If he was in this year's draft, where would he rank with other QBs, and finally, have you heard anyone ''in the know'' who has personal feelings on Rodger's future success, or lack there of? I also echo other Packerchatter's appreciation for your time. Thank you. Frank Coyle (DraftInsiders) - Rodgers would be behind Russell and Quinn and most likely go late in the first round in this class also. It is difficult to evaluate after sitting two years. It helped Philip Rivers and probably helps Matt Schaub in Houston. The position demands a lot of patience, reps and probably the toughest learning curve in sports. I feel he is gaining valuable knowledge to learn a system. His preseason play is vital for his development. I feel he is still starting NFL talent but only time will tell. Moderator - This concludes tonights Draft Chat and we thank Frank for being with us again here in PackerChatters Draft Chat this year.
