NFL Draft '07 - Chat Frank Coyle www.draftinsiders.com Moderator - Hi Frank and welcome back to PackerChatters Draft Chat...we thank you for taking the time to come in tonight. Frank let us know when you are ready and we will start asking for questions from our list of fans with us tonight. Frank Coyle - Draft Insiders - Good evening everyone. Its’ NFL Draft time. Da Raiders are still on the clock Moderator - ...question for Frank? Frank Coyle - Draft Insiders - Nice to be in Packer Chat again. Welcome Frank..What players have GB shown the most interest in at and since the combine? Frank Coyle - Draft Insiders - I have to believe the Packers are looking at DE, WR and RB early Frank Coyle - Draft Insiders - The RBs went quickly in FA so with Green gone - running back is a high priority, though maybe not with a #1 pick. Frank Coyle - Draft Insiders - I believe they would take Marshawn Lynch if available at #16 What is latest on the status of Michael Bush? do you think he has the talent to be a premier running back? Frank Coyle - Draft Insiders - Bush has a pro day on March 26th. He has to run good to be a high pick. He is a wild card player who may not be ready for camp. So what is the real scouting report on Greg Olsen’s blocking skills? Ever after he ran that 4.5 40 I started comments posted about his blocking skills aren't that great, and if his blocking skills aren't great can he be coached in that area?. Frank Coyle - Draft Insiders - At this point Bush has to prove it to me after not running in Indy from a Sept injury. Frank Coyle - Draft Insiders - Olsen needs work on his blocking technique and overall strength especially his lower body. He is an awesome receiver though in the Jeremy Shockey mold without the baggage. He is also a Jersey guy. Thanks for answering questions Frank. Are the Bills the only team in front of that Packers that could take Lynch before GB? And do you see passing on Lynch for maybe someone else, allowing him to fall to GB? do you see the Bills passing* Frank Coyle - Draft Insiders - Bills have him on their radar. The Giants could move up for Lynch but other than those two clubs Packers could have a real chance here Do you think the Packers should pick a RB, WR or TE with the 16th pick since Green left Frank Coyle - Draft Insiders - It is a weak year for running backs. Only two Peterson and Lynch probably warrant a top 50 grade. Others are later first day guys like Booker, Hunt and Irons. Is Brian Leonard a every down back -- what round will he be picked in -- is he a fullback or tailback and who does he compare to. THANKS What is the deal on Willis McGahee? Frank Coyle - Draft Insiders - Leonard is a guy I love. He is the most versatile back in years - great hands - can run inside and outside and play either spot. He is a top 50 prospect with well developed skills and a great kid I did a lot of work on. I hope the Giants take him. Is Quincy Black still considered a 2nd day pick? If he is, why? He put up great numbers at the combine but does he not have the production to go along with it? Frank Coyle - Draft Insiders - Black played in the MWC and not one saw him except regional scouts. He is a player with fine talent and production and probably moved into the top 100 off the combine. He carries a starting grade and if a club gets him on the 4th round - he is great value there. Thanks for answering. Did LaRon Landry assert himself into the top ten with his workout at the combine? is there any chance that he slips to us at 16? Is he worth trading up to get? Frank Coyle - Draft Insiders - Landry has always been in the Top 10 in my book. I am not sure what game people on TV are watching. Landry will not make it to the Packers at #16. He needs a little coverage development but is a blue chip defender. Packers are lucky. It is a great year for safeties. If we deal for McGahee and Olsen is on the board at 16 do you take him or do you think a WR is likely at this spot? Frank Coyle - Draft Insiders - McGahee is a real possibility and probably costs at best a #3 or later this April. Olsen gives the offense a missing dimension. Wide receivers are deep this year and players like Rice, Higgins, Hill and Allison will be available in the middle of the first day. Robert Meachem is what everyone is talking about after the combine. Is he a good value at #16 and do you think he is a game changing wideout in the NFLl. thank you frank Frank Coyle - Draft Insiders - Meachem is a burner with fine size and speed. He goes in the first round off the combine and probably 5-6 go in the first round. Packers probably have a chance at any wideout except Calvin Johnson, Jarrett and Ginn. Meachem would be a good player but I think there is better value available at #16 If your TT what are your first three picks and Do you move up or down in the 1st? Thanks Frank Coyle - Draft Insiders - I think Ted Ginn is the player I would want. Otherwise I would trade back and try to get more top 50 picks Say another #2 for moving back 1012 spots in the first round. I think DE is a deep group and a defender like Adam Carriker is a good fit here, though there should be quality DE on the 2nd and 3rd rounds. I like Ginn, DE Abiamiri or Crowder on the 2nd and TE Scott Chandler on the 3rd rounds. Where's Quinn Pitcock fall in the draft? Thanks for being here Frank Frank Coyle - Draft Insiders - Pitcock is falling. He has marginal size and AA. He gives a good effort but comes up short athletically. He probably goes late on the first day now. I don't like him and he has only marginal starting ability and probably only a good backup. If we wanted to trade down in round one....which teams may be looking to jump up? Frank Coyle - Draft Insiders - Maybe the Patriots with two #1 picks. SD wants quality not quantity and would be interested if the right player is available. Most trades for draft picks are On the Clock. Availability changes everything The Davis (WR) kid from LSU is moving up my draft board. I am not so sure he isn't a better player than his running mate Bowe. Frank? Frank Coyle - Draft Insiders - Bowe is really hot with some scouts. I am only mediocre about him Davis has a bigger upside but looks fragile and injury prone that hurts his final grade. Davis is a burner and can change a game in a minute. I like him but he is risky. What RB can be had in rounds 3-4 that can have an immediate impact on the Packers if they chose not to draft a RB in Rd. 1 or 2? Moderator - Draft Insiders' Digest - 16th Season http://www.draftinsiders.com 20 issues annually Draft '07 Yearbook Monthly Newsletters Published by NFL scout Frank Coyle and staff @ Draft Insiders.com Over 100 years experience scouting Pro Prospects Subscribers call: 1-800- 776- 1949 "The Publication NFL Scouts Buy" Frank Coyle - Draft Insiders - RB is 3-4th rounds are marginal players this year. It falls off the table quickly. Hunt is a 2nd round player. Booker and Irons will be gone by the 3rd round at least. McGahee looks better by the day as FA running backs sign quickly. Bring back Tiki Barber How do you like the S. from Miami...Meriweather (sp)? What round does he go? Frank Coyle - Draft Insiders - Meriweather had a good Senior bowl and combine. He figures to be off the board by the early 2nd round. Some on and off the field issues hurt his grade as he should have been a #1 pick. He is a good looking prospect with an early NFL starting grade if he matures. How does Lynch compare to another Cal alum...JJ Arrington? I remember that Arrington was also highly regarded coming out of college. Should we stay away from Tedford running backs? Is Lynch the real deal for a zb scheme? Thanks Frank Frank Coyle - Draft Insiders - Lynch is much better than Arrington. I did not like Arrington that much a marginal top 100 prospect then. Lynch is bigger more productive and better natural running skills. He is more battle test also and I think has the ability to become a fine pro feature back early in his career. Would it make sense for the Packers to move up the draft, say 5-6 spots for a WR/RB? What do you think of Pack signing Jamal.Lewis or Chris Brown? It's reported they have interest and he has alot of dough to work with! Frank Coyle - Draft Insiders - Lewis showed little since his arrest a few years ago and is a marginal player. Brown may have more upside. Maybe just take Tony Hunt on the 2nd round and focus on other needs with their #1 and later. Moderator - Great questions and answers.... Next You touched on it with an idea of taking Carriker later in the first round. Given that DE's Adams and Anderson will already be gone at pick #16, your thoughts on the top DE available to the Packers at their 16th pick? Someone else with better grade/value you take at #16 or is Carriker the 3rd best DE and whose value is better later in the first? Frank Coyle - Draft Insiders - Carriker is a fine looking prospect and a solid two way defender. He is very physical and gives his club an early starter and a very safe pick. Strange things happen in the draft and for different reasons players fall. I have no idea why Ted Ginn is rated so low. He is a game changer with big play ability. What QBs have/are the Packers looking at in the draft? Stanton, Edwards, Smith, Kolb, Beck, etc. Which QB would fit the Packers the best? And how well does Aaron Rodgers stack up against this draft class? Frank Coyle - Draft Insiders - I think Rodgers would be a late first round this year. He will sit again but gets a chance to get healthy and learn further. Edwards is overrated in my book. He threw a ton of picks and is hurt every year. Kolb is under the radar but a nice looking prospect who goes late in the first day and fine value there. Smith and Beck will probably go on the 2nd day and have only marginal starting talent. With GB needing help at the TE spot who would be the one for them to pick in the 2nd or 3rd rd. Thank You Frank Coyle - Draft Insiders - Olsen goes mid first Miller goes late first or early second round. After that it gets dicey. Milner, Newton, Chandler, Harris and Patrick are middle round guys and are before the 2nd day. What cornerback do you think is the best value at #48 for our second round pick, and what safety is the best value there, Maybe Eric Weddle or Chris Houston, and do you think Houston will be a good pro, just a little scared from former #1 pick Carroll Frank Coyle - Draft Insiders - Houston goes in the first round off the combine. Weddle is a good looking prospect with incredible versatility. He goes around #48. I like corners like Eric Wright, Jon Wade, Tanard Jackson, Fred Bennett at that point. Every year there seems to be guys that are underrated and turn out to be late round picks that end up in the pro bowl, what two or three guys do you see that might fit that mold this year? Also who are the overrated 1st round grade guys right now in your opinion? Frank Coyle - Draft Insiders - I think wide receiver will supply more sleepers this year like Marques Colston last April. It is a very deep class and players like Steve Smith, Mike Walker, Chansi Stuckey can surprise with small college Maurice Price and Jacoby Jones fine players. Where does Michael Bush rank amongst RBs? Does he fit the Packer's zone blocking scheme? Frank Coyle - Draft Insiders - Bush was a fine looking back before breaking his leg. He did not workout at combine and his late March workout is huge to see where he is in his rehab. He is all over the map on boards and only a good workout can keep him in the first day at this point. For kick/punt returner prospects, who could be this year's Devin Hester (or this year's Cory Rodgers) and when would they go? What do you think of GB drafting the Irons brothers? Frank Coyle - Draft Insiders - I love Tedd Ginn and he goes in the early first round. Meachem can return KO and Hill also Frank here is another question...What do you think of GB drafting the Irons brothers? Frank Coyle - Draft Insiders - Corner David Irons is overrated. RB Kenny Irons has had some big games but he is only 203 lbs. and has some knee problems. I would pass on them David is a marginal top 100 Kenny is probably a top 50-75 prospect. Would you rather spend a 3rd rd draft pick on mcgahee or moss? Frank Coyle - Draft Insiders - I would rather Moss. He cost Oakland two #1 so the price is critical. He is still a difference maker in my book though a risky guy for a few reasons. McGahee did not run well last year in the games I saw I have questions about him but a #3 would be good value if healthy. Do you think Ginn can have any impact playing both ways? he was a good corner his freshman year and he seems interested in trying? Frank Coyle - Draft Insiders - No Ginn is a receiver and return specialist. That's enough work for him. He is a burner with great playmaking ability. He needs development as a receiver but can help in three wideouts immediately and provide great field position with his return skills. The last question this evening for Frank Coyle What FA's (thats left) would you go after? Frank Coyle - Draft Insiders - FA market is bare at a lot of positions. DE Kerney signed with Seattle? I like wideout Kevin Curtis a lot. Hope GMen sign him. Stallworth is a player but risky. Jets talkng with T.J. Duckett after trading for Thomas Jones.
