Record Number of Underclassmen Enter NFL Draft 2014

The NFL announced today the names of 98 players who have been granted special eligibility for the 2014 NFL Draft on May 8-10 in New York.

Each of the 98 players has met the league's three-year eligibility rule and each has submitted a written application in which he renounced his remaining college football eligibility. The deadline for receiving applications was January 15.

The NFL Draft will kick off in primetime for the fifth consecutive year. The first round will be held on Thursday, May 8. The second and third rounds are set for Friday, May 9. Rounds four thru seven will be held on Saturday, May 10.

The number of players granted special eligibility is a new record, up 25 from last year. The number has increased six years in a row. The official count on underclassmen entering the 2014 draft is 98, easily breaking the record of 73 that was set just last year. Here's how the early entries break down by position: 4 QBs, 19 RBs, 19 WRs, 10 TEs, 9 OLs, 18 DL, 5 LBs, 14 DBs.
