Super Bowl XL - Pittsburgh Steelers vs Seattle Seahawks

Steelers Look to Drive The Bus to Win Super Bowl XL over Seahawks
Iron City Boys vs Cappuccino Yuppies in NFL Title Game

The Steelers return to the Super Bowl in hopes of winning one for the thumb. They were the terror of the NFL through the ‘70s when they won 4 times over a six year period. In their only Super Bowl appearance since then, the Steelers lost to the Cowboys in the early ‘90s in head coach Bill Cowher’s only visit to the show. The Seahawks make their first appearance ever to the Super Bowl show after a long history of playoff disappointments.

All the year round endless preparation and work, the NFL Draft, veteran Free agency, mini camps, training camps, practices, preseason and countless hours of scouting both college and pro players including the NFL Combine is for one reason – to win the Super Bowl. Every other aspect of the year round evaluation and training is geared to get to and win the NFL title.

The Steelers will look to their tough defensive to contain NFL MVP, Seattle runner Shaun Alexander this Sunday. He has been the catalyst for the Seahawks over recent seasons and Seattle rarely wins when Alexander is not producing Pro Bowl type numbers. The Steelers defense loves to take away the ground game and relies on defenders Joey Porter and Troy Polamalu for big plays. Porter provides consistent big play ability as a pass rusher when he is not acting like a complete knucklehead. Polamalu is a difference maker in this defense and a player who is an emerging star and a credit to the NFL and Southern Cal University.

Seattle QB Matt Hasselbeck should be under heavy pressure all day especially if Alexander is contained early in the contest. The Steelers attack will rely on star QB Ben Roethlisberger and runner Jerome Bettis to control the clock and field position to gain an early lead. Big Ben has been the missing component in Pittsburgh over recent years, providing stability and consistency with big play ability and few mistakes in the process. He promised Bettis a Super Bowl season if he returned for the ’05 season. While playing in his hometown of Detroit in what is the finale of his great career, Bettis would be the ideal Super Bowl MVP candidate. After many frustrating postseasons in Pittsburgh, Bettis could make an exit a la John Elway to cap an outstanding career. His powerful running should be the determining factor in the Steelers rise to the top of the NFL again.
